I work regularly as a freelance expedition leader for the Nord Anglia Schools expedition programme.

The programme has two bases, in Tanzania and the Swiss Alps.

As an expedition leader, we are responsible for overseeing the well being, safety and delivery of the expedition programme to mixed groups of approx 18-25 students, aged anywhere from 13-18yrs.

In Tanzania the program usually involves a 2 day Safari, an overnight camping trip and hike and three days of community outreach working with a local charity. As well as overseeing the day to day running of the trip, we also deliver high quality educational input and evening review sessions - the students personal development is a key element to your role as leader.

As a leader, you can also be asked to guide student groups on Kilimanjaro and on expedition to Lake Natron..both of which are more involved trekking focused expeditions.

In Switzerland, the emphasis is more on environmental experience and during the week the students complete a 2 day hike with an overnight in a hut, a glacier hike, team building activities and local cultural excursions. I also make an additional effort to deliver evening workshops to help the students better understand the impacts of climate change on the alpine environment
